Tickets are going fast for a popular annual herring sale benefiting kids with cancer that returns to Steveston this Saturday.

The 13th annual herring sale, organized by Fishermen Helping Kids with Cancer, is being held at the Steveston Harbour Authority on Trites Road on Jan. 13.

This year, 75 tons of herring will be sold — double the amount of last year's fish.

One bag of herring will weigh around 20 pounds with each bag costing $20. Tickets are only sold online and are divided per 30-minute time slots from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

All proceeds will go to support kids being treated for cancer at BC Children's Hospital, helping make their hospital stay more comfortable with iPads, video game systems and other gifts.

Every year, around 130 children under 17 years old in B.C. get diagnosed with cancer.

The herring sale has raised almost $1 million since 2011.

As of the publication of this article, the 8, 8:30 and 9 a.m. pick-up time slots are sold out.

To purchase a bag of herring for pickup, visit the annual herring sale's Eventbrite page.
