BCCDC reports 99 cases in Richmond over past week

The BC Centre for Disease Control is reporting 99 cases in Richmond between May 11 and May 17.

In the preceding seven days, meanwhile, the city saw 113 cases.  

This is according to the BCCDC’s new data dashboard, which reports on a slightly different date range to the data previously released on Fridays.

According to the dashboard, Richmond’s average daily case rate of new cases is 6.5 per 100,000 population, for the week of May 11 to May 17. The week prior, the city’s average daily rate per 100,000 population was 7.4.

In comparison, Delta has an average daily case rate of 11.6 per 100,000 and Burnaby, 12.8 per 100,000.

Meanwhile, as of May 20, 50 per cent of adults aged 18 and older in Richmond have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the BCCDC data. In addition, 72 per cent of adults aged 50 and older in the city have received at least one shot.

Vancouver Coastal Health declared an outbreak at Richmond Hospital on Friday night, after seven patients in the 4 North Acute Care for the Elderly unit tested positive for COVID-19.

The hospital has closed the unit to all non-essential visits, with exception for essential care or compassionate visits at the end of life.
