Richmond Oval offering free events for Olympic anniversary

The Richmond Olympic Oval is offering three days of free events to celebrate the 2010 Olympic Winter Games anniversary.

The Oval will kick-off the celebratory events with Olympic Day – a day for youths to discover new sports and inspire them to maintain a healthy lifestyle – on Feb. 21.

There will be public skating, speed skating demonstrations, Canadian Olympians signing autographs, live performances by Circus West and more.

Skate and helmet rentals will be available for $3 and $2.25 respectively.

Visitors are encouraged to carpool or take public transit.

Parking at the Richmond Oval is $2 per hour or there is also free parking available at the City of Richmond Works Yard – 5599 Lynas Lane – with a complimentary shuttle for those visiting the Oval during celebration hours.

The following is the schedule for the weekend events for Feb. 21 – 23:

What: Canada versus USA women’s para hockey game 1 with autograph and try-it session
When: 11 a.m.
Where:  North rink

What: Free public skate
When: 5 – 6 p.m.
Where: South rink

What: Circus West, Komak, CARHA world cup activity area, kids zone and podium selfies with torch and medals
When: 5 – 8 p.m.
Where: Level 2

What: Free Olympic Experience admissions
When: 5 – 8 p.m.
Where: Level 3

What: Olympic athlete autograph sessions
When: 5 – 8 p.m.
Where: Legacy lounge

What: Canucks Fin appearance
When: 5:45 p.m.
