Woman, 78, dies after three-car Richmond crash

A senior has died after the car she was traveling in was involved in a three-car crash on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened around 12:40 p.m. at the Blundell and No. 5 roads intersection.

A total of five people were taken to hospital after a Dodge Caravan traveling east on Blundell collided with a Toyota Corolla traveling north on No. 5.

The two vehicles then collided with a Mercedes traveling west on Blundell.  

According to Richmond RCMP, only the lone occupant of the Mercedes escaped injury. 

The two female passengers of the Corolla suffered the worst injuries, including a 78-year-old backseat passenger, who was taken to hospital by later died from her injuries.

The other occupant of the Corolla, a 52-year-old woman, has undergone two surgeries and is currently in critical but stable condition. 

Three others were treated for non-life threatening injuries. All those involved are Richmond residents. Richmond RCMP road safety unit is currently working with the Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Section (ICARS) to determine exactly what caused the crash. 

No charges have been laid at this time.
