Youth are a national priority for the RCMP. In 2011, the Richmond RCMP Youth Section engaged in a number of successful projects aimed at both mentoring and policing Richmond youth.

Members investigated and solved a number of serious offences involving youth including assaults, robberies, drugs, hate crimes and threats.

During the 2010/2011 school year, Youth Section members taught drug awareness to 1,708 Grade 5 students through the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program.

Members also referred approximately 50 youth to the Youth Intervention Program, a counseling service aimed at helping youth identify and learn from their challenges, and develop life skills.

In 2011, Youth Section members volunteered their time to participate in the RCMP Youth Academy, toured youth through the Downtown Eastside, coached hockey and teamwork to young players through Canucks First Strides Program, delivered presentations at various elementary and secondary schools and much more.

The Richmond RCMP Youth Sections commitment to teamwork, youth empowerment, education and volunteerism, makes them very deserving of this nomination.
