A reminder from the News that City of Richmond flat rate utility bills are due March 31. Residents who pay the city on or before this date qualify for a 10 per cent discount, which is already indicated on the bill.
The City of Richmond and BC Hydro are also offering $100-200 rebates on new energy and water efficient washing machines.
Only for the month of May will residents be able to apply for the credit (another campaign will start in October).
A $100 rebate will be offered for washers with a minimum modified energy factor (MEF) of 2.6 and a maximum water factor (WF) of 4.0. Washers with an MEF of 2.8 and a WF of 4.0 will get a $200 rebate.
The latter washes save an estimate 240 kWh per year or about a $25 savings on your BC Hydro bill based on the current tier-two rate. The washers will also save 62,000 litres of water, saving more money on the water meter bill.
The rebate money is split between BC Hydro and the city.
Also, for a limited period, the city will giving residents a $100 rebate on low-flow toilets.
But you better hurry, especially for the washer rebate. Rebate funds from the city for washers are capped at $20,000, enough for 250 units, according to a report from the city's utilities department.
In 2014 the city has put aside enough money for 800 new low flow toilet rebates.
