A pair of former standouts with the Greater Vancouver Canadians are among 120 prospects invited to Buffalo this week for the NHL Scouting Combine.
Forwards Glenn Gawdin and Adam Musil were both teammates during the 2012-13 B.C. Major Midget Hockey League season. They were both also first round Western Hockey League Bantam Draft picks who went on to play for the Swift Current Broncos and Red Deer Rebels respectively.
Gawdin is from Richmond where he played for Richmond Minor up until his second-year of Bantam when he shifted over to Seafair. He helped Canada win reach the podium the recent U18 World Championships in Switzerland, scoring twice in bronze medal game against the host country.
Musil played for the South Delta Minor rep program before shifting to Burnaby Winter Club for two years of Bantam. His family moved to Tsawwassen when his older brother David played for the Vancouver Giants. His father Frank Musil played 15 seasons in the NHL.
Gawdin was listed 59th among North American skaters in the final NHL Central Scouting rankings. Musil was right behind him at 61st.
The six day NHL Scouting Combine will give amateur scouts and general managers an opportunity for 1-on-1 interviews with the prospects at First Niagara Center. The medical examinations of each player will take place Thursday, and the fitness testing will take place Friday and Saturday at HarborCenter.
The three tests to be completed by Friday include BodPod, which measures body mass, fat-free mass, fat mass and percent body fat; grip strength, which measures hand strength; and the VO2 max bike test, which measures a player's endurance.
The remaining nine tests to be held Saturday and open to the media include standing height, wingspan, standing long jump, jump station, pro agility test, bench press, pull-ups, Y-balance test station, Wingate Cycle Ergometer Test.
