Budding local writers can get a boost from noted author, Nancy Lee, the writer-in-residence at the Richmond Cultural Centre, in the coming weeks.

Lee is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Gabriel Award for Radio and a National Magazine Award.

She was selected as the first Canadian Writer-in-Residence at the prestigious University of East Anglia Writing Program in the U.K., and served as Writerin-Residence for the city of Vincennes, France in 2011.

"We're thrilled to have acclaimed author Nancy Lee here with us and we know the public will benefit from her knowledge and skills," said library communications officer Shelley Civkin.

Lee works as an assistant professor at the University of British Columbia Creative Writing program. Her novel, The Age, will be published by McClelland & Stewart in 2014.

For those who like creative story writing, but English is not your first language, and you're unsure of your skills, then the ESL Writers' Workshop led by Lee is for you.

The ESL Writers' Workshop features a free, three-hour session at the Brighouse (Main) Branch of Richmond Public Library (7700 Minoru Gate) on Oct. 9, 16 and 23 from 6-9 p.m. Participation is limited to 15.

And those signed up should have upper intermediate to advanced English language skills and be 18 years of age or older.

Participants should also attend all three sessions.
