McMath's Kate Carkner drives to the basket in Friday's semi-final game against Okanagan Mission at the BC 3A Championships in Langley. The Wildcats lost 80-67 and will meet Argyle on Saturday for third place.

The McMath Wildcats will close out their season Saturday morning looking to finish on the podium at the inaugural BC 3A Girls Basketball Championships at the Langley Events Centre.

The Wildcats and former Lower Mainland rival Argyle will square off in the third place game at 11:30 a.m.

McMath saw its championship bid end with an 80-67 loss to the Okanagan Mission Huskies on Friday afternoon.

The No. 3 seed Wildcats trailed for much of the contest but did put together a 16-7 spurt in the third quarter to close to within six points. Their No. 2 opponent from Kelowna responded with a 14-point run of its own to seal the victory. The Huskies will play No. 1 Abbotsford in today’s final.

Grade 9 Marina Radocaj continued her strong tournament with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Liz Kennedy added 14 points and six boards as she winds down her imprerssive five-year career on the senior team.

McMath and No. 4 Argyle were perennial contenders in the former Lower Mainland Zone — meeting in the last-ever Crehan Cup final a year ago. The Pipers won that game but the Wildcats prevailed 65-52 back in late November at the season-opening Big Ticket Tournament.
