It will be a a rematch of the city senior girls volleyball final tonight except zone bragging rights will be on the line this time.
The McRoberts Strikers will host the McMath Wildcats in the inaugural South Fraser AAA Championship gold medal match after both schools posted semi-finals wins yesterday. Game time is 8 p.m.
The Richmond champion Strikers swept the Steveston-London Sharks (25-7, 25-19, 25-15) while the Wildcats did the same against the Delta Pacers (25-16, 25-20, 25-12). McMath and Delta will square off at 6 p.m. in the third place game.
Meanwhile, the Strikers senior boys team, also fresh off winning the city championship, has continued its strong play in Surrey by advancing to tonight’s South Fraser AA final.
McRoberts will take on Pacific Academy at 7:30 p.m. with the winner being guaranteed a spot at provincials. At worst, the Strikers would be heading to a wild card qualifier tournament.
They defeated Surrey Christian 3-1 (26-24, 22-25, 25-22, 28-26) to advance. Pacific Academy got past the Richmond Christian Eagles in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-20).
The Eagles and Surrey Christian will square off at 6 p.m. in the third place game.
In the South Fraser Boys AAA Championships, the Steveston-London Sharks have a key match tonight against the Seaquam Seahawks in their bid to advance to provincials.
The Sharks dropped a straight set semi-semi-final on Wednesday to No. 1 ranked Earl Marriott and will now attempt to battle their way back into the third place game.
The tournament concludes on Friday at Steveston-London with the bronze and goal medal games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. respectively. Marriott will play upstart Fleetwood Park in the final.
