The B.C. Sport sector has named B.C. Lions kicker Paul McCallum recipient of the 2012 Community Champion Award, presented by Richmond Sport Hosting, for his athletic achievements and philanthropic practices.

The award will be presented to him at the 47th Annual Athlete of the Year Awards Show next Thursday at the River Rock Show Theater.

McCallum, a veteran in the Canadian Football League (CFL), is a two-time Grey Cup champion. When he is off the field, he contributes his time to the development of young Canadian athletes through his involvement with KidSport BC, a community based sport-funding program that provides grants for children to participate in a sport season of their choice.

McCallum played an integral role in orchestrating a raffle that auctioned off a Grey Cup autographed Harley Motorcycle. This initiative was just part of his contributions which helped raise over $50,000 for KidSport BC.

"Richmond is a city that values sport and we appreciate what a difference community involvement can make in the development of our athletes," said Mike Romas, Manager, Sport Hosting, Richmond Olympic Oval. "Paul McCallum helps make sport possible for young athletes in all communities across B.C. through his charitable initiatives and we are proud to recognize him as a community champion."
