Over 100 Richmond Rapids took part in last month’s Lower Mainland Regional Championships at the Winskill Aquatic Centre in Tsawwassen.

The two-day meet was split into four sessions based on age group. For up-and-comers Lien David, Kaya Mohindroo, Anton Bersamira, Henry Lin, and Joshua Rathwell, it was the first LMR-level meet.

For the rest of the Rapids, this was the first meet back after spring break and great chance to try out new racing skills after some time off. It was also an opportunity to rehearse pre and post race routines in their home pool before upcoming long course competitions.

Yuuki von Huendeberg earned a new tier one time in the 400m free, while Jenna Zhang swam to a two tier clocking in the 200 fly.

Meet MVPs included Provincial Age Group’s Jerry Tao with a new club record in the 200 free and 50 breast; while Sophia Raffai did the same in the 200m butterfly.

Most Improved was AGD2’s Iris Chen who dropped over 70 seconds in total over the championships and had her first tier one time in the 200m individual medley

One hundred percent best times were produced by Iris Chen, Kyan Chow, Gary Du, Chantelle Edwardson, Jeffrey Guan, Taegan Harries, Allan Jiang, Liam Pearce, Sophia Raffai Yiguo Song, Lauren Leung, Merina Lau, Trenton Lau, Yan Madorsky, Josh Nygard, Benjamin Jiewen Shen, Ava Tan, Jerry Tao and Leo Titan.
