Sixth annual event has raised over $15,000 for local chapter

The sixth annual KidSport Richmond Hockey Jamboree attracted a record 10 teams earlier this month at the Richmond Ice Centre. The fun event has raised over $15,000 since its inception.

It was another fun weekend of hockey that chipped in with a big assist to KidSport Richmond.

The local chapter, which provides grants to help city children play organized sports, received a $3,626 donation from the sixth annual Richmond Kidsport Ice Hockey Jamboree — held Aug. 9-11 at the Richmond Ice Centre.

“The event initially started out as an ideal of ways we could raise funds for Kidsport,” explained organizer Denise Danicek. “With the help of my (Richmond Arenas Community Association) friend Lan Wong, we decided we could run a small fun jamboree bringing friends and family along to come play and raise funds.”
It began as a four-team event raising $995 and has evolved to 10 teams and 127 players for this year’s jamboree that featured 20 games over the three days.

Since its inception, $15,266 has been raised for KidSport with the City of Richmond and Stanleys Bar and Grill being proud sponsors.

Participants ranged from 15 to 67 years of age.

"We started off small, however,  there is no limit to where we can go,” added Dancek. “(We do this) so all kids can play!”
