This year's Halloween pumpkins went out with a bang – literally.

During Saturday's Pumpkin Drop, families from around Richmond gathered at Fire Hall No. 2 in Steveston to bid farewell to their painstakingly carved pumpkins, with the help of Richmond Firefighters Association.

Parents and children climbed to the top of the hose tower to drop their pumpkins off the third storey balcony to the large, painted red target below.

Each year, the association hosts the post-Halloween event to help raise funds for the Richmond Firefighters Charitable Society. The charitable society helps support local organizations such as Richmond Food Bank, Richmond Hospital Foundation and Richmond Stroke Recovery.
