November is Financial Literacy Month. This is an initiative of Financial Literacy Action Group (FLAG), a coalition of seven organizations that work to assist and improve the financial literacy of Canadians.

With the proliferation of sushi bars in Richmond, you’d think we would be drinking more saké than we do. One of the reasons is that, even in Japanese restaurants, there is often only one brand, and it’s usually an inexpensive one.

The Editor, I drove into Richmond Oct. 27 at 8 a.m. from Langley to attend a WorkSafeBC appointment. I missed the turn into the parking lot from Westminster Hwy., so turned right onto Elmbridge and couldn’t enter the lot that way.

The Editor, I would like to express my gratitude for the support Richmond’s local newspapers have given to the process of helping voters get to know the candidates and their thoughts on current issues.

The Editor, Re: The all-candidates meeting Nov. 7 hosted by the Richmond News. Thank you so much for selecting a format for this meeting which gave citizens a chance to ask a question directly to the candidates.

The Editor, I am a nurse at the local hospital, I have lived and worked in Richmond with my wife, Lih-Fen, for approximately 26, years raising four children.

This is not an editorial exhorting you to get out and vote. We’ve done that. And we’ll probably take another stab at it before voting day. It is also not an editorial telling you who to vote for.

No doubt, the fact the Richmond News had to turn people away from the all-candidates meeting we hosted because the room was packed to the rafters was a problem. But, from the perspective of community engagement, it’s a great problem to have.

Like many teenage boys, my favourite coming of age experience upon entering high school was shop class. After a childhood spent watching my father use power tools, I was finally going to learn to use them myself! It wasn’t as easy as that, though.
