The Editor,
In light of the tragic death of the two young brothers on No. 4 Road last Saturday, I'm wondering, if we have gone to a graduating system to help kids get more experience behind the wheel before we fully allow them to drive, why we do not do the same for the type of vehicle they can drive?
Wake up parents. Sure, you have a lovely car that you allow your kids to drive, maybe it's your only vehicle available to them? But really, all that power for an inexperienced driver?
We all know how kids like to show off. Let us not encourage this behaviour by allowing them access to such vehicles.
If they drive a vehicle that is only a four-cylinder and not an eight-cylinder, would they have the desire to go fast? Would the impact of such an accident have been as deadly with a less powerful vehicle?
I, myself, drive a very powerful vehicle and feel the urge to "mate it" on occasion. You can't always help yourself, but then again, I've been driving for nearly 40 years and certainly not under the influence.
