Steal from poor, give to rich?

The Editor, I have read about TransLink's governing bodies getting great stipends, TransLink management getting swollen bonuses, and the transit police and their inflated overtime budget - their hourly rate is higher than municipal police and RCMP.

The Editor,

I have read about TransLink's governing bodies getting great stipends, TransLink management getting swollen bonuses, and the transit police and their inflated overtime budget - their hourly rate is higher than municipal police and RCMP. I am also aware that TransLink is looking for more money.

They say they can save just over a million dollars by ending fare savers for mobile-challenged folks. These are people who, by way of age, illness or disability, cannot get around the same way most of us can. To qualify, they also must be in a financially difficult situation.

Presently, folks with mobility issues can apply every month to TransLink for a limited number of passes that will allow them to take a taxi for only half the fare. For $50, they can get five $20 taxi rides per month, no more. They can use them for shopping or medical appointments, etc.

So in order to keep the wages, bonuses and overtime high for the well-paid TransLink executive, this is what they must cut.

They are starting with the programs that will affect the people who need help the most. Take from the poor and infirmed to give to the rich.

Great target guys. At least you know they will not be coming down to the TransLink offices or marching in protest.
