I am very disappointed in Richmond city council's reaction to Mr. Marr's presentation.
Council must know the right thing to do is to ban serving shark fin but its position is that it will only do the right thing if Vancouver does the right thing.
The cultural argument is bunk. It used to be the culture in Newfoundland to fish for cod. They had to stop because the cod were going extinct.
It is the culture in some places to perform female circumcision. It is not allowed here because it is cruel.
Shark finning will lead to extinctions and is cruel. Council should do the right thing and impose a ban now. We don't need to support businesses and customers who have so little conscience.
