The Editor,

As the spokesperson for the pilot project Richmond Rental Connect, I wanted to give an update and thank everyone for their support.

Since April, the project has coordinated three events for landlords and tenants seeking safe and affordable housing.

In September, we conducted an education workshop called Building Successful Landlord-Tenant Relations.

Before year-end, there will be one more workshop where tenants, homeowners, and landlords can get together and talk over challenges and solutions that will assist them in building positive, long-term relationships.

In 2013, the project will turn to educational workshops and administering a housing registry where both parties can post their accommodations and needs.

We will be working with community agencies to enlist tenants needing services and will be providing continued support through the website www.richmondrentalconnect.ca. Workshops will be focused on the residential tenancy act, respectful communications, financial literacy, landlord mentorship and dispute resolution.

The Richmond Rental Connect project would like to thank the following community groups for their generous offerings:

Thanks to the Richmond News, City of Richmond, Richmond Family Place, Richmond Caring Place, CHIMO Crisis Services, McNair secondary school Culinary Arts program, Richmond Cultural Centre, Richmond Shares, Richmond Civic Engagement Network, Richmond Youth Services Agency, KAIROS, Richmond Pentecostal Church, South Arm United Church, BCGEU, CUPE Local 718, Nurse Next Door, Cooperators Insurance, BC Housing, BC Apartment Owners and Managers Association, and the BC Rental Housing Coalition.

Thanks also to our funding sources: Vancity, Richmond Community Foundation, RBC Dominion Securities, and the City of Richmond. We could not have embarked on this without their support.
