Dear Editor,
I’m hoping that you will write my little story in your paper, as I wish to give kudos to some of the Richmond road workers and the Richmond Fire Department.
First off, I am a senior, 76 years old, on disability and I had a mishap at the northwest corner of No. 3 Road and Williams at about 12.30 p.m. on July 26.
Me and my scooter did a nose dive into the crosswalk and I fell down with my scooter on top of me.
Any car turning right there would have run me and my scooter over. Several pedestrians came to see if they could help and phone an ambulance, which they did.
Then, the most wonderful thing happened, four or five city workmen who were on their way to lunch, circled around me and they parked their city vehicle at the corner and put on their arrow on the truck to direct traffic away from me.
They managed to lift the scooter off me. I got up to a sitting position when it was ascertained that nothing was broken and I did not hurt my head.
Then, they stayed there until the fire department came and kept talking to me and being so nice.
When they made sure I was OK, and the fire department had it all in hand, they carried on for their lunch. They were not allowed to pick me up, but they made me feel OK and were so nice.
This is where the firemen came in; they were all so nice and made sure before they picked me up that I wasn’t seriously hurt and nothing was broken. Then, they picked me up and brought the scooter to me and got me on it.
There are still some wonderful people in this world.
