Dear Editor,
Re: “Too many near misses with cyclist,” Letter, July 10.
I'm writing in response to the letter to the editor about cyclists on the sidewalk.
The photo published with the letter was taken at the intersection of River Road and No. 4 Road where there is a wide sidewalk with signs that say “Shared Pathway” and have symbols of bikes and people walking.
I agree that cyclists, and all road and sidewalk users, should take more care to be safe with each other. I also think that the city should have more safe cycling paths, such as the long one on River Road between Van Horne Way, No. 4 Road, ending at Shell Road.
Yet I continue to see cyclists on River Road, especially along the extremely narrow section between Van Horne and Great Canadian Way, where there is no sidewalk at all, deep ditches and blind corners.
I have seen more near misses in this section of road than I can count. I agree with the other letter writer that cyclists need to take more care of themselves and others.
