Richmond RCMP are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a young cyclist suffered serious injuries in a collision with an SUV on Sunday night.

According to police, the cyclist – which the Richmond News has been told by other sources was a teenage girl – was travelling north on Railway Avenue at around 10:30 p.m. when she was hit by a westbound white Nissan Rogue travelling west on Steveston Highway.

The RCMP believes the cyclist was hit after entering the intersection, causing her to suffer serious injuries before being taken to hospital, where she remains, as of Monday afternoon.

Driver remained at the scene, witness said light was green for vehicles

The driver, said police, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the RCMP’s investigation.

Neither speed nor impairment are considered to be factors in the collision, they added.

And according to a witness who spoke with officers, the light was green for vehicles driving on Steveston Highway at the time.

Anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage, is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2022-16833.
