Richmond - The Editor, As a teacher having many casual discussions these days with members of the public - many of them parents - about the realities of learning and teaching in public education, I'm saddened that the main concern seems to be over disrupted or missed field trips, track meets, and other such special days which, although important, amount, in total, to maybe a week of school days during the course of a child's school year, when it is the learning and teaching conditions all school year long that is the more important issue. To the public, society is drastically different from what it was like when you went to school, and so is learning and teaching; teachers care deeply about children and learning, so class size and composition is central to a job being well done; and a salary increase that aligns teaching salaries with others in Canada is an investment in B.C.'s future.Janet OakesRichmond
