Richmond - The Editor, Re: "Council votes out Vote Anywhere," News, April 30.I read with disbelief our city council's decision to take a step backwards when it comes to encouraging voter turnout in civic elections.The Vote Anywhere convenience model used in the last election reversed Richmond's trend of declining turnout.Voter turnout is critical for a healthy democracy and Richmond City Council, with one of the lowest turnouts in the province, should continue to do all possible to get people to vote.One has to ask the motivation for taking this step backwards - why would they knowingly work against democracy?Brian RussellRichmond
