We are all familiar with the messages about the need for financial restraint, budget cuts, European countries in financial distress, local airline employees terminated, etc.

Now, the local gravy train is about to run again. Six members of council and various other invited groups are to, once again, under the banner of the Sister City Committee, visit China.

A city employee estimates the cost of this trip to be $40,000. At the same time, a delegation with the much travelled Councilors Bill McNulty and Harold Steves will travel to Japan to pay a visit to Sister City Wakayama.

A lousy example of restraint - especially with our Richmond taxpayer funds.
