Bill C-38 needs fix

Open letter to Alice Wong, Hiding changes to environmental laws within a socalled Budget Act is not how an open democracy works.

Open letter to Alice Wong,

Hiding changes to environmental laws within a socalled Budget Act is not how an open democracy works.

The Conservatives are using this tactic to push through changes in our environmental protection laws without any real public debate.

These are some of the non-budget related items in Bill C-38. It repeals the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and introduces a weaker version, without a single day of hearings before the environment committee.

It removes protection of endangered species and their habitat, when approving pipeline projects, by amending the Species at Risk Act and the Navigable Waters Protection Act.

It guts the Fisheries Act by removing provisions for habitat protection.

It repeals the Kyoto Protocol Implementation Act.

It eliminates the National Round Table on Environment and Economy.

This is a dangerous road that erodes our open democracy. I am writing to ask that you demand that non-budget related laws be removed from Bill C-38.
