Three charged with robbery

Alleged heist at Ben Moss

Three men have been charged with the armed robbery of a Richmond Centre jewelry store last week.

Ty Burgess, 29, of Vancouver and Shane Buckner, 36, of Mission, have been charged with armed robbery and wearing a disguise with the intent to commit an indictable offence.

A third accused, 32-yearold Keith Macdonald, of Coquitlam, has also been charged with armed robbery and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.

Mounties scrambled to the scene of an armed robbery at Ben Moss in Richmond Centre around 6 p.m. last Tuesday, Nov. 6.

According to witnesses, two suspects entered the mall, smashed the display cases at Ben Moss and fled with an undisclosed amount of jewelry.

Once outside, one of the suspects, armed with a gun, attempted to carjack a vehicle but was unsuccessful. In his attempt to carjack a second vehicle, the suspect was tackled by a former security guard, who had pursued him from the mall.

A terrifying scuffle ensued inside the car, as the former guard, known as Dave, tried to disarm the suspect while they fought on top of the female driver inside the car.

During the struggle, the suspect fired a shot and amazingly, no one was injured.

Dave told the News last week how, despite being bitten on the hand by the suspect, he pressed down even harder, sensing that the gun was being turned on him.

The suspect was then held by Dave and a diner from a nearby restaurant until police arrived to take the suspect into custody.

The other two suspects were later located and arrested by officers from the Vancouver Police Department.

All three will be returning to court on Nov. 19.
