An entire building in Steveston needed to be evacuated on Tuesday, after a driver smashed a car into its rear.

According to The Fab Pad’s Facebook page, the driver put their car into drive, instead of reverse and “drove right into the brick wall next to our back door.”

The accident caused the wall to cave in and cracked the Moncton Street store’s interior wall.

Emergency services arrived, but the building was, according to the post, deemed unsafe for occupation and everyone was evacuated until it could be assessed by a structural engineer.

Later the same day, the engineer arrived and the building was deemed safe for occupancy again.

The Richmond News has reached out the emergency services for more details.
