A new lawn bowling clubhouse at Minoru Park is estimated to cost about $5 million, and council is set to decide on Monday evening whether to give it the green light.

At last week’s committee meeting, the majority of council supported a 4,300-square-foot plan to rebuild the facility, originally built in 1963. The current building is 1,920 square feet.

The original budgeted cost was $4 million, but with the plans in place, the proposed budget is $4.8 million, with a $90,000 contribution from the Richmond Lawn Bowling Club.

At this week’s committee meeting, some councillors argued to build a higher building to replace the lawn bowling facility so it could be used by other groups as well.

Currently, the club has 250 members, but this is expected to go up to 400 in the next five years.

The clubhouse rebuild was opposed by Couns. Harold Steves, Carol Day, Kelly Greene and Michael Wolfe.
