Two out of four incumbent Richmond MLAs seek re-election

John Horgan says that racism is a "virus," and condemns the recent rise of anti-Asian racist behaviour since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The premier met with B.C.’s lieutenant-governor this morning and asked her to dissolve legislature - a provincial election will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24.

In Richmond, MLAs Teresa Wat and Jas Johal have said they would seek another term in office if an election were called. 

The BC Liberals announced on Monday John Yap, the current MLA of Richmond-Steveston, is not seeking re-election.

Furthermore, MLA Linda Reid announced earlier this year she wouldn't run for re-election.

Matt Pitcairn, current president and CEO of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, has announced he will run in Richmond-Steveston for the BC Liberals.

The last provincial election was held in May 2017 after which the NDP formed a minority government supported by the Green Party.
