Birthday-eve win ‘extra’ special for Whistler man

It was an unforgettable birthday for Francis Masculino, who learned the night before his big day that he’d won $500,000 from the March 3, 2020 Lotto Max draw.

The Whistler resident said ‘Yes’ to the Extra when he purchased his ticket at the Squamish Walmart, and said he feels “grateful” for his big win, with which he plans to pay-off his vehicle and purchase a home.

Masculino, who has called Whistler home since moving to Canada from the Philippines in 2008, initially checked his ticket while filling up for gas, but couldn’t believe it, and drove home and downloaded the BCLC Lotto! app to check it again. Once he arrived, he told his wife immediately, who almost cried upon hearing the good news.

“This means I can spend more time at home with my kids,” said Masculino, who noted that the life-changing win means he can work one job, instead of two.

Masculino claimed his prize using BCLC’s temporary alternate prize-claim process.
