The BC Liberals are seeking candidates for several ridings in anticipation of the next election, but Linda Reid’s riding of Richmond South Centre is not one of them despite her announcement two weeks ago that she is retiring from politics.

Deanie Wong, a spokesperson for the BC Liberal caucus, said candidates are being sought in waves and the 11 announced on Monday is just the first wave.

The riding association for Richmond South Centre didn’t take calls from the Richmond News, saying they preferred emailed questions.

“We look forward to announcing the next steps for the Richmond-South Centre nomination in the coming months,” said Wong in an email.

Currently, the BC Liberals are seeking candidates for Abbotsford South, Courtnay-Comox, Maple Ridge-Mission, Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, Mid Island-Pacific Rim, New Westminster, North Vancouver-Lonsdale, Oak Bay-Gordon Head, Port Moody-Coquitlam, Vancouver-Fairview and Vancouver-Fraserview.

According to a press release, they are looking for “under-represented” groups like millennials and women.
