A Richmond bowler returned home with a gold medal after competing in the youth national championships this month.
Zander Seng with Splitsville Riverport placed first in the Bantam Boys Singles division of the 2025 Youth Bowl Nationals in Edmonton, Alta., which took place from May 6 to 8.
Seng competed against six other bowlers from across the country, including athletes from Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec.
"I feel really good winning a gold medal, but I did not expect to win the gold medal," said Seng.
He told the Richmond News that during the finals, he was up against Sean Choi of Alberta and had lost the first match.
"He beat me once and I was bummed that I got a low score," said Seng.
However, his coach and mom continued to cheer him on.
"I used that source of motivation to boost my bowling skills to get a 201 game."
In February, Seng placed first at the Youth Bowl Provincial championships, which qualified him to be a member of Team BC for nationals.
