Young Kajaks athletes honoured with the crest

For some athletes, it was their first time competing in meets due to COVID

BC Athletics has recognized 22 of Kajaks Track and Field Club’s Junior Development athletes for their performances at competitions in the spring and summer with JD Crests.

Designed to recognize participation and performance across a number of events, athletes who meet the JD Crest criteria received a souvenir crest.

The 2022 track and field season is the first year of normal competition season after COVID cancellations for the previous two years. For some athletes, it is their first time competing in meets.

For ages nine to 13, Kajak’s Junior Development (JD) program’s annual membership starts in January. 

For those not committing to an annual program, there is a seasonal winter intake that runs from January to March, with winter JD sessions being held indoors at General Currie Elementary gym, starting on Jan. 10.

For ages 14+, the club’s Athlete Development program offers more focused training for discipline-specific events that an athlete wants to specialize in.
