The McMath Wildcats are poised to be a factor again at the upcoming provincial "AAA" high school boys soccer championships.

Coming off a third place finish last season, the Wildcats have been a force through Richmond league play and now the playoffs.

The Vancouver District Championships, which feature the top six teams from Vancouver and two from Richmond, wrap-up this week and it'll be an all Lulu Island affair in the final.

Defending champion McMath will square off against the Hugh Boyd Trojans with both teams already being assured provincial berths.

The rivals have already met twice this season with the Wildcats prevailing 4-0 in league play, then posting a 4-2 overtime victory in the city final.

McMath secured a spot in the District final with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Vancouver number one seed Magee.

The difference was Marc Andrew Herieux providing great finish on a terrific set-up by team captain Colin Jacques.

Goalkeeper Jason Roberts enjoyed an excellent outing to earn the shutout.

"It was a solid performance throughout we are very pleased with the boys," said Wildcats coach Mike Quinn, who will take his squad to its third straight provincial tournament.

The provincial championships are slated for Nov. 17-19 in Burnaby.
