McMath Wildcats capped a perfect run in the Richmond Senior Girls League with a win over McRoberts in the city championship game.

With the school’s first-ever provincial AAA berth already locked up, the McMath Wildcats will be attempting to bring the Crehan Cup back to Richmond for the first time since 1999.

The fifth ranked senior girls basketball team has advance to Saturday’s Lower Mainland championship game where it will take on the seventh ranked Handsworth Royals. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. at New Westminster Secondary School.

The Wildcats breezed into the final with a pair of lopsided wins this week including a 67-36 win over the Churchill Bulldogs in Thursday’s semi-final. McMath opened play Monday with a 50-27 victory against city rival Hugh Boyd.

The Royals’ road to the championship game included a 61-42 win over Argyle in an all-North Shore semi-final match-up. The last Richmond team to win the Lower Mainland AAA title was the Charles London Legends.

The B.C. AAA Championships are slated for March 4-7 at the Langley Events Centre. McMath had previously qualified for the provincial AA tourney which was held in Kamloops at the time.

Earlier, McMath’s run to the city title also included wins over Cambie (62-14) and Richmond High (73-23). The girls finish Richmond play with an 11-0 record.

The team includes: Grade 12s — Josie Butler, Chelsea Simpkins. Grade 11s Ellie Reid, Julia Wilson, Bonnie Leung, Justine McCaskill, Montana Leonard, Jessica Zawada, Hannah Partridge, Bobbi-Jo Colburn, Carmen Milne, Jessica Jones. Grade 10s — Georgia Booker.
