McMath opens B.C. AAA Girls Basketball Championships Wednesday with win over Fleetwood Park

The McMath Wildcats have advanced to the quarter-finals at the B.C. Girls AAA Basketball Championships after an impressive opening round victory.

 

Jessica Zawada scored 20 points and added nine rebounds to lead the seventh seed Wildcats to a 62-46 win over the 10th seed Fleetwood Park Dragons. The win sets up a quarter-final date with the second seed WJ Mouat Hawks on Thursday night (7 p.m.) at the Langley Events Centre.

 

Jessica Jones added 16 points, six rebounds and five steals for McMath, while Bobbi Jo Colburn had 14 points and six boards.

 

The Hawks advanced with an easy 76-19 victory over Mt. Baker.

 

The Wildcats are making their first-ever appearance at the top tier of the provincial championships. The tournament concludes Saturday.
