Whitecaps FC to host pair of games at Minoru next month

Women to battle Victoria while U23 team also in action

The 2012 Whitecaps Women's Soccer Series once again features a stop at Minoru Park next month.

The Whitecaps' W-League schedule includes a game against the Victoria Highlanders on Sunday, July 8 at Minoru with kickoff slated for 4 p.m. The match is one of seven "home" games the Whitecaps are playing throughout the Lower Mainland this season.

"The Whitecaps Women's Soccer Series has been a great way to bring elite level soccer to communities throughout the Lower Mainland, and it would not be possible without the support of these host clubs," said Dan Lenarduzzi, Whitecaps FC director of soccer development. "We look forward to another exciting season and we thank each of the clubs for their fantastic support."

The Whitecaps (1-3-2) got off to a slow start but did manage a 3-1 win over Los Angeles on Wednesday night after battling second place Seattle to a scoreless draw on Sunday.

The Minrou doubleheader will get underway at noon with the Whitecaps' U23 Premier Development League men's team also taking on Victoria. Their roster features three Richmond players who have come through the Whitecaps Residency program - Caleb Clarke, Declan Rodriguez and Carlos Marquez.

Tickets for the two games cost $12 and can be purchased through the Richmond Girls Soccer Association website - www. richmondgirlssoccer.com - or at the gate.
