A pair of Richmond hockey players have been named to Female U18 Team BC, which will be competing at the 2012 U18 national women's championship in Dawson Creek Nov. 7-12.

Defenceman Jodi Gentile and forward Leah Lum were selected to the 20-player roster following the recent summer development camp with the Kazakhstan national women's team in Salmon Arm.

"The camp with Team Kazakhstan was a huge success. The majority of the team had never been to Canada or to a camp of this nature," said Nancy Wilson, director of operations for Team BC. "Kazakhstan is an older and more experienced team, but B.C. proved they have a lot of talent. These were their first games together and they were highly competitive."

Team Kazakhstan played three games against Team BC, beating them two games to one.

Team BC edged Team Kazakhstan 2-1 in the series opener but Kazakhstan came back the next night, beating the home team 5-1 due mainly to a solid power play effort.

Kazakhstan again beat Team BC 4-2 with the last goal being scored into an empty net.

Gentile and Lum are both coming off impressive seasons with their respective club teams where they played prominent roles in winning championships.

Gentile helped the Fraser Valley Phantom capture the B.C. Female Midget AAA Hockey League title, while Lum was a member of the Richmond Midget "A" Ravens that won their first-ever provincial banner.

Another Ravens player - Emily Costales of Vancouver - also made Team B.C., as did two other Phantom members - Chelsea Wilson and Mackenzie Wong.
