Hugh Boyd Trojans will be heading into the provincial "AA" playoffs in Parksville with plenty of momentum following a thrilling 14-13 overtime win over the Seaquam Seahawks.

The result will likely create a threeway logjam for first place in the Southern Conference, if the Seahawks take care of winless Langley this weekend. Under that scenario, a point differential tiebreaker comes into play with Seaquam getting the nod for top spot, followed by the Holy Cross Crusaders and Hugh Boyd.

The Trojans at least proved they once again are capable of playing with the top teams in the province.

The teams headed to the non-suddendeath overtime format tied at 7-7 and Boyd took the lead on a four-yard run by Travis Coutts. Tieran Docherty added the convert.

Seahawks also scored on its possession and opted to go for the two-point conversion which would not only give them the victory but clinch the conference title. The ensuing pass attempt fell incomplete.

Boyd now has 10 days to prepare for its opening round playoff match-up with the third ranked Ballenas Whalers.
