The Richmond 2006B Islanders dove into the deep water over the weekend and more than held their own.
The girls rep softball team headed to Coquitlam for the Mixed Up Madness Tournament at Mundy Park. The Islanders played “A” level opponents for the very first time and proceeded to produce a pair of upset wins against the Victoria 2006A Devils (6-4) and White Rock 2006A Renegades (4-2) to advance to the gold medal round.
Richmond went on to capture silver, losing a close battle to the Coquitlam 2006B Classics.
The team includes: Vanessa Chan, Ulani Cyr, Bella DeShaye, Laurel Forgeron, Samantha Jung, Kristin Law, Takara Orange, Kiyomi Tien, Makaela Parker, Demetra Trimis, Aika Wang and Madelyn Wong. They are guided by head coach John Wong and assistants Adam Cyr, Dereck Griffin and Dana Trimis.
