Strikers work overtime for quarter-final berth

McRoberts opens B.C. AA Rugby Championships with 25-20 win over Chilliwack's GW Graham

The McRoberts Strikers dug deep to advance to the quarter-finals of the B.C. AA Rugby Championships.

Making their 16th straight appearance in the tournament, the seventh seed Strikers pulled out a 25-20 overtime win over No. 10 GW Graham on Saturday at St. Georges High School in Vancouver.

The result sets-up a final eight match-up on Wednesday morning with No. 2 St. Michael’s University. The Victoria school was idle over the weekend after No. 15 Sutherland forfeited the round of 16 match-up.

Injuries and other commitments added up to McRoberts finishing their match without six regulars. Still the boys found a way to prevail over their Chilliwack opponent thanks to Sam Hagong’s try in extra time.

The provincials shift to Abbotsford's Exhibition Park for the final three days of action, concluding on Saturday.
