There were plenty of goals and smiles at the Richmond Sockeyes’ 16th annual Alumni Game on Saturday night at Minoru Arenas.
Captain Tyler Andrews’ overtime marker capped a three-goal comeback as the current team rallied for a 6-5 victory.
The game saw the return of Judd Lambert behind the alumni bench. He guided the Sockeyes for nine of the past 10 years before stepping down at the end of last season. His roster included former Dallas Star and Richmond native Raymond Sawada.
The evening is a key component of the 48-year-old junior hockey club’s immensely successful scholarship program for graduating players. Since the game’s inception, well over $200,000 has been raised for the Sockeyes Scholarship Foundation.
The Sockeyes resume their Pacific Junior Hockey League regular season schedule with a game Monday night in Port Moody and Thursday at home to Grandview. Game time is 7 p.m.
