Senior boys basketball playoffs look to be a wide open affair

For the first time in years, the Richmond senior boys basketball playoffs will be a wide open affair.

For the first time in years, the Richmond senior boys basketball playoffs will be a wide open affair.

After being somewhat of a forgone conclusion thanks to a dominant run by the RC Palmer Griffins, this year's tournament could produce plenty of surprises.

The action gets underway this afternoon at Richmond High when the Hugh Boyd Trojans battle the McRoberts Strikers for the eighth and final playoff spot.

The tournament then shifts to Steveston-London secondary next week where the host Sharks could have their hands full despite a first place finish.

Should Boyd prevail in today's tiebreaker game, it would set up an intriguing opening round match-up since the Trojans defeated the Sharks in the final of their own tournament last month.

Second place McMath, along with Cambie, Burnett, Richmond High, McNair and defending champion Palmer, will all be in the mix.

Opening round games run from 2: 15 p.m. to 7: 30 p.m. on Monday. The semi-finals take place Tuesday night and the final on Thursday (7: 30 p.m.).
