Richmond's Glenn Gawdin has been selected to play for Team B.C. at the upcoming 2012 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup in Calgary.

The 15-year-old forward, who grew up in the Seafair Minor Hockey Association, was picked fifth overall by the Swift Current Broncos in last spring's Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. He is currently playing for the Greater Vancouver Canadians of the B.C.

The selection process for Team B.C. saw a number of players shortlisted and further evaluation following last summer's U16 provincial camp.

"It is with great excitement that we announce the players that will compete for B.C. I would like to congratulate each and every player on the shortlist whether they were selected or not," said Weber. "Each player competed extremely well and made every decision a difficult one. This team will feature a very skilled forward group, with a very talented and composed group of defensemen, along with solid goaltending. The staff as a whole is eager to et the pre-stage started so we can begin he process of bringing these individuals ogether as a team."

With another local resident - Mitch Pinsky - serving as director of operations, the team will gather in Richmond later this month for a pre-stage camp. The schedule will include an exhibition game against the Greater Vancouver Canadians.

The Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup will feature a four team - B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba - round-robin format and is the first step in the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence.
