Richmond's Phillip Scrubb capped a dream season by helping the top ranked Carleton Ravens capture the CIS men's basketball championship with a 86-67 win over No. 2 Alberta on Sunday in Halifax.

The former Vancouver College standout received the Jack Donohue Trophy as the tournament MVP.

The sophomore guard led the Ravens in scoring for the third straight day with a 26-point output in the title match. He had netted 25 in the first round and 18 in the semis.

Just days earlier, Scrubb became the first player in CIS men's basketball history to be named rookie-of-theyear and player-of-the-year in back-to-back seasons. He was also named a First Team All-Canadian.

The 6-foot-3 standout stepped up his game in 2011-12, putting up even more impressive numbers than his rookie campaign. Despite averaging only 23 minutes per game, he dominated on the court, finishing 10th in league scoring with an average of 16.2 points per game, and sixth in field goal percentage with a 55.7 per cent success rate.

He was one of the nation's best threats from beyond the arc, leading the OUA with 61 threes, while his 57.0 three-point field goal percentage was tops in the CIS. The commerce student led his team in assists, averaging 3.3 per game, and was second in steals with 26.

"Phil has taken his game to another level this season," said Carelton head coach Dave Smart.

"He has done whatever he has needed to do to win. His defence gets overlooked because he is so dominant on offence."
