Hilary Schaap is heading to Oklahoma City next month.
The Richmond rower has been named to the national junior team to represent Canada at the Can Am Mex competition - slated for July 8-13. The event will feature Canada taking on top crews from the United States and Mexico. Schaap was chosen for the squad following a three-day selection camp in Welland ON.
The Grade 12 McMath secondary student also reached the podium twice at the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Championships in St. Catherines. She captured the senior women's lightweight singles event and placed third in the senior women's open singles race.
Schaap hopes to be representing B.C. at the Canada Summer Games in Quebec this August.
Team trials for that event take place at the end of the month. She will be continuing her rowing career at Western University in the fall.
