Richmond native Tyler Sandhu has been named to the Team Pacific roster for the 2013 World Junior Under 17 Hockey Challenge, slated for Dec. 29-Jan. 4 in Victoriaville/Drummondville, QB.
Sandhu is one of 11 B.C. players selected for the Team Pacific line-up that also includes 11 from Alberta. The process saw 34 players initially identified at a summer regional camp who were then further evaluated during the first part of their club team's season.
Sandhu is currently in his rookie season in the Western Hockey League as a centre with the Everett Silvertips where he has managed 10 points in 24 games. Last season, he was among the top scorers in the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League with the Greater Vancouver Canadians. He was part of a strong 1996 age group that came through Seafair Minor Hockey's rep program.
The 2013 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge brings together the top players in the world born 1996 or later. The tournament is made up of 10 teams; five from Canada - Quebec, Ontario, Pacific (Alberta, B.C)), Atlantic (New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island) and West (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut) and five international teams.
