Robinson named to national team for European friendlies

Richmond's Jodi-Ann Robinson will be suiting up for the national women's soccer team this week for a pair of international friendlies in Europe.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been named to the Canadian roster for tomorrow's game against France and on Sunday against England. Both games will be web casted on sportsnet.ca.

The European trip will see the Canadians face off against familiar foes, as it will be the first time the team plays France since the hard fought bronze medal match at the Women's Olympic Football Tournament at London 2012. Canada also just recently lost 1-0 England in the 2013 Cyprus Cup final.

"Once again going into this camp our focus will be on our performance as a team rather than the result," said John Herdman, Head Coach of Canada's Women's National Team. "We will be facing two teams that are EURO contenders, while we are two years away from our next big competition. We need to look at these matches as opportunities for us to develop and prepare players for the type of performance we require to be successful in 2015/2016."

Robinson is a member of the Western New York Flash of the fledgling National Women's Soccer League. The Palmer secondary graduate played collegiately at the University of Florida and spent six years with the W-League Vancouver Whitecaps. She has been part of Canada's national team program since 2004.
