Roadrunners earn silver at A2 provincials

Richmond Roadrunners Bantam A2 lacrosse team capped an outstanding season with a silver medal finish at the Provincial Championships in Delta.

The Roadrunners earned a semi-final berth by winning all three games in round-robin play After outlasting a strong team from Nanaimo, 12-10, Richmond returned to the floor hours later to slip past Prince George, 6-5. A physical 8-5 win over Kelowna followed the next day.

In the semi-finals, the locals overcame a 7-5 third period deficit to defeat Burnaby, 11-7. The championship game against Campbell River saw the Island squad jump out to a 5-1 lead then hold off the Roadrunners for a 9-6 victory.

Ryan Jensen was named to the tournament all-star team and earned a Game MVP award. Also honoured were Taylor Dudlets, Diesel De Guzman and Josh Bourne. Mitchell Lavoie received the Warrior Fair Play Award.

The Roadrunners also featured: Sam Loewen Ben Dickinson, Ryan Curtis, Justin Preston, Anton Bobyrev, Connor Sexsmith, Kyle Ahlfield, Taylor Dudlets Jordan Roberts, Tyson Brown, Jacob Lorenz, Brock Jung, Hunter Van Hest, Dawson Yates, Conor Dimmick, Forrest Wheeler, Nathan Domanski and Quin Griffith.
